Yeah! My boy is 1 year and 10 months old today! 2 more months to go before he turns 2!
There seems to be a growing phenomenon that I can't help by notice. I've observed it happening everywhere. In the restaurants, on the trains, buses, shopping malls - everywhere.
It seems a toddler's intelligence nowadays are defined by his or her ability to use an Iphone.
To know how to 'flick' his fingers on the screen of the phone. Or touch on the correct keys on the screen. Or play the games on the phone. Or whatever.
Once on the radio, I heard a listener call in and talked about how her 14 month old son knows how to use her Iphone to play games etc. And the deejay commented that her son is a total genius and that the mother had certainly taught him well to do so!
Sean doesn't know how to use an Iphone. His mother me abhors using touchscreen phones for that matter.
Would that constitute him being in the "lesser known" then?
It would seem that I sound like sour grapes here but I'm totally not. I'm just feeling, well, rather bizarre over such an observation made on the part of the deejay.
Fine, if there's really a need to give a rough gauge of Sean's advancement based on his ability to use a phone, well here goes for the record:
- Sean knows how to use my Nokia E71 to call up friends whom I've not contacted for a long while AND the confinement lady who helped to look after him during his first month - all this via voice command.
- Sean has scheduled meetings and appointments in my calender with people I hardly know. On a typical day, I've got a 1pm meeting with Deja, a 5pm meeting with Juyu, and a memo titled Kuujkjkkliuj. Maybe he's helping me to widen my social circle. Which can be proven by the following point too.
- My contact list has expanded with additions of exotic names that I have problems pronouncing. Hyjsd has an Internet telephone of .kk-866465664661Rx, I)pol has a title of G?t', NO can be contacted at 009000000c00, TK has an assistant by the name QQ. Thoughtfully, Sean has even put in a contact that I can call up to get and overdraft - aptly named OD, but regretfully he has left out his contact numbers. Argh.
- Sean knows how to control the volume of video clips he's watching on the phone. And of course, knows how to pause and playback the clip too.
- Sean knows how to take artistic photos using the phone too. His favourite shots are of the TV, partial shots of his and my foot, the bed or sofa that ultimately turns out to be a black image - amongst other things.
- Sean knows how to express his anger and unhappiness by throwing the phone onto the floor, chipping off a corner part of the !? button of the phone.
There. Sean is clueless about the Iphone but he does achieve alot with my E71 too doesn't he?
Here's another encounter that I experienced the other day.
I was bringing Sean to my mum's place. On the way there, we met a grandmother and her grand-daughter. We stopped and chat for a while and learnt that the girl is 2 months younger than Sean.
The grandmother asked about Sean about the usual, like can he talk already, whether he is going to school etc.
She went on to say her grand-daughter can speak very well now. AND she can use her mummy's phone to play games.
In her exact words: "My grand-daughter can just touch the screen of the phone and use it very well! She can listen to music, watch videos, even talk to her mother on it!"
I can only smile and exclaim "Wow!" in the sincerest tone and expression I can put on.
When we are about to part our ways, the granny told the girl to give us a flying kiss. She did so accordingly.
I told Sean to do the same. He too gave a big smacking flying kiss.
But following that, he turned and gave me a big kiss on my mouth!
All this in front of the granny and girl!
At that very instant, I was brimming with utmost pride and joy that no words can describe.
You know what? U toddlers can Iphone all u want.
My Sean prefers to Ikiss.
And I'd much prefer that to him attaching to a battery-powered gadget.
But the greatest achievement of Sean this month must be his calling me MaMa! I've waited for so long to hear those magical words that I teared when I first heard him calling me that. It's definitely worth it. :)
Ur mummy will never get tired of kissing u!
